Some Updates

The picture above is far from perfect, but we rarely get a family pic, so I thought I would share!

Randomly, here are some things I felt compelled to share:

1.  Langley currently eats solids twice a day.  She hates fruit, so I mix it in with her rice cereal in the mornings and she likes it.  She has loved all veggies we've tried:  sweet potato, green peas, carrots, and avocado.  I have made and frozen all of the above veggies :-)

2.  I mentioned in an earlier post that she weighed 18 pounds.  I guess we are about to move up to size 3 diapers.  I can't believe she's almost 6 months old.  That's half a year!  What in the world?!

3.  Who's ready for Razorback football?!  Um, my household is!  Even though we live basketball, [thankfully] we watch a lot more football on television.  I can't hardly force myself to watch basketball on tv, but I can watch some football!  Who doesnt love starting your morning with College Game Day and a good SEC game?

4. An Asian guy at the nail salon this weekend is covinced that UCA could beat the Hogs.  It was too funny - for many reasons - but I've never heard a pedicurist talk football of any kind.  My reply was, "Um, not this year."  Hilarious.

5.  I had 3 out of 13 students bring their homework to class today.  Apparently, emailing them instructions because you have to cancel class to attend a funeral, is way over their head.  WAKE UP people!  I did show them grace and stayed a little after class for them to finish and turn in their work, but I don't have the gift of mercy, so I probably won't be so nice next time.  They'll learn.

6.  CBC has a total enrollment of 725 students!  We are up 100 students from last fall.  You can read the story here.

The Funk is Lifting!

Langley has slept 3 nights in a row, and is overall just happier!  I weighed her this morning and the scale said she was 18 pounds!  Looks like we had a little growth spurt.  (I check for teeth everyday and there are still none.)  I took a few pictures of our little sweetheart.  Maybe she's just happy because we've had fabulous weather the past 2 days and she's gotten to go outside more.  We even made an apperance at the CBC Soccer game tonight, and if you know anything about Josh's feelings toward soccer, you know that it must have been nice out to even get him to consider :-)

Thank you for all the encouragment and advice on the last post!  I realized today that the Lord had fixed every "problem" I complained about in the last post.  He is faithful and in control even when I want to fix everything myself or get wrapped up in the small everyday annoyances that life can bring.  Thank goodness I'm not in charge!

Bummer.

Langley has not been pleasant recently.  Sleeping has been a problem. She's very whiney.  Yuck.  Is this what normal babies are like? Everyone has always said how good she acts and asks "is she this happy all the time?"  Well, now she definitely acts better in public than she does at home, which is probably typical.  I keep thinking she's teething, or maybe she's too hot, too cold, constipated, otherwise in pain, bored, going through a growth spurt....etc, etc, etc.  Bottom line - I don't really like to be around her after a few hours of whining and fighting sleep.  Please Lord, let this end soon, or at least let her sleep through the night again.  She's been sleeping in the pack and play in the guest room (because it's hot in her room,) she has outgrown all her swaddle blankets, and when she first started crying out in the middle of the night, Josh would go check on her.  It's kind of all spiraled out of control.  Neither of us has had a full night's sleep in a few weeks.  I bought a lightweight sleep sack, so we are letting her get used to being unswaddled and being able to roll around.  Do we let her cry it out?  Like I said, Yuck.

There's been a lot going on recently.  School has started, Josh turned 30, off season started, our shower door fell off, I finally decided I wanted to lose weight and I'm impatient about that process...and seriously, this is the HOTTEST summer I've ever lived through.  It's HOT.  Will it ever end?!  Ned Perme says yes.  Or, as we call him, Ped Nerme.  And I giggle every time Josh says "Ped."

We are just trying to get in a groove and a new schedule.  But, Josh's family suffered a sudden loss yesterday with the passing of his uncle Donny, so that has added sadness to the mix.

Sorry this post is whiney (Langley is rubbing off on me.)  I'll leave you with this:

The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.  Psalm 29:11

twenty eight

  1. I turned 28 last Wednesday.  28 sounds middle-aged.  28 sounds really old to a 20 year old.
  2. I am looking forward to using my pedicure gift certificate that Josh got me.
  3. Also last Wednesday, Henry got sick.  He vomitted many many times.  My carpet is ruined.
  4. Henry went to the vet on Thursday.  For the second time since we have owned him, he contracted a bacteria from eating another animal's poop.  He's a poop eater.  He licks us in the face, sleeps on our pillow whenever he gets the chance, and also enjoys eating poop.
  5. Henry LOVES the special wet dog food he gets to eat while recovering.  He will tackle you for that nasty stuff.
  6. I went to a workshop last Friday and Saturday and really learned a lot.  I learned what a sucky teacher I had been in the past, but I now have tools and ideas to improve!
  7. I am in denial that school starts this week.  I think it is a protection mechanism, because if I think about it, I get very overwhemed and feel behind and unprepared.  I hate those feelings.
  8. Langley stayed in Arkadelphia during my conference.  I think everyone enjoyed the experience.
  9. Langley apparently was very sweet while I was gone during the day despite some wardrobe issues that my mom was having trying to dress the child.  :-)
  10. Swaddling is an art.  Unfortunately it is an art you must know to get my child to nap.
  11. It has been so hot in my own house that Langley has been sleeping on the guest bed (surrounded by pillows.)  Refer back to the swaddling.  77 degrees in the house is not condusive to being wrapped up and comfortable.
  12. Thankfully, for whatever reason, the guest room stays 10 degrees cooler than the rest of the house.
  13. I would bet our AC unit is older than me.  And I'm 28.
  14. You know you've reached a turning point when you have to fight the urge to use all of your birthday money on bills or getting your oil changed or medicine for your poop eating dog.
  15. CBC is busting at the seams!  We are looking at close to 220 new students.  When your total enrollment was just over 600 last year, this is a big class!
  16. I keep forgetting that I can be nice to the students now.  As in, I'm not the enforcer of every rule and I can't kick them out of school.  Thank you Lord from removing me from that position!
  17. Langley has 3 dresses that currently fit her.  We started the summer with 14.  I am not exaggerating.
  18. Everyone says kids grow so fast, time flies when you have children, etc.  But I never comprehended how fast they change!
  19. All of Josh's new varsity players are transfers.  No freshmen.
  20. Off Season starts Monday.  Pray for us.  Practice at 5:00am and again in the afternoon.  It is challenging for everyone involved.
  21. I have made more babyfood.  I made carrots this afternoon.
  22. Langley likes peas more than sweet potatoes.
  23. I have been horrible at picture taking lately.
  24. We are very close to having a sitter!  She can sit unsupported (but wobbly) for about 30 seconds.
  25. Again, it is so hot in my house.  I have really avoided using the oven, I didn't realize how much until I counted reciepts and we have eaten out 12 times since pay-day.  Slow-the-fast-food-roll.  We will sweat to death, but I will cook again.
  26. I don't really set goals, but I want to have another baby before I'm 30.
  27. Josh's birthday is Friday and we have to sit in meetings ALL DAY.  I don't know what to get him or how to celebrate.  I wanted to throw a party, but that is really out of the question.
  28. Josh will be 30 on Friday :-)

FOOOOOOD!

Yes, I got it in her nose.  No, she did not care.
Langley has had rice cereal and sweet potatoes so far.  She eats the cereal in the morning and has a veggie for dinner.  The whole feeding process is getting better everyday.  She has had store bought and homemade baby food and did well with both.  I have to get her used to both because I need things as simple as possible for travelling during basketball season!
This was her very first bite of solids!  I totally fought back tears the whole time.  I'm not ready for all the major milestones (or extra messes) that are headed at us so quickly.  What happened to my [huge] tiny little newborn baby?

8-9-10

I'm a huge nerd and I LOVE that today's date is 8-9-10.  I actually smiled when I wrote in on a check this morning. It's the simple things, right?  Whatever, you just called me a nerd...I'm OK with it.

School is getting closer and closer and I feel not-so-prepared, but at the same time a little excited.  I'm not going to lie, this time of the year, and move in day, and other big event days were my favorite part of my job.  I'm pretty good at planning for big things and got pretty good at dealing with mild chaos and wacko parents in 100 degree heat.  It feels VERY weird not to be involved, in fact, I'll be away at a conference on move-in day this year.  But, I'm so happy to be in my current teach some classes-advise some students-stay at home with Langley situation!

Today was so busy.  Just lots of little things.  I did not sit down or turn on the TV until 4:56pm.  At that point, I needed a mental health break.  Thankfully, Josh had just gotten home so I sent him out again for a hot and ready pizza.  So, for the past hour, Langley has napped, Josh has played WII golf, and I have read blogs, checked email and ate dinner.  We're fancy people.

I need to do a post about Langley eating cereal for a week and trying sweet potatoes today.  But, I don't want to download pictures right now.  Sorry.  I hope you enjoyed your 8-9-10!

My 2 Favorite People

This picture was taken one day last week when I got an afternoon completely to myself!  Sometimes, you just need alone time.  As soon as they left I immediatley went and picked up some sushi and a magazine!!  Even just a few hours can make the heart grow fonder, I was ready for them to get home that evening!

5 Months Old

Time is flying - seriously, July was like a blink of an eye!  Langley is 5 months old!  She wears size 2 diapers, 3-6 and 6-9 months clothes, eats 7-8 oz 4 times a day.  But, we are starting rice cereal today, so we'll see how that changes things.
She rolls boths ways, loves her exersaucer, loves her new stroller, loves the church nursery, puts everything in her mouth, reaches for and touches everything, and likes to read 2 books with mommy each morning.
She is waking up at 8am, taking a morning nap (30min-1hr) around 9:15am, and usually takes at least 1 long afternoon nap (long as in at least 1 hour) with another shorter one thrown in.  Bed time is between 8:30-9:00pm!
She is such a happy baby in general.  She smiles and laughs a lot!

We are SO BLESSED!
